“It is the nature of man to rise to greatness if greatness is expected of him.” – John Steinbeck
People by nature typically take the easy way out when possible; they often set the bar very low, very low for one reason – far of failure, doing what’s comfortable and almost what is a guarantee. However individuals that do this limit their ultimate potential.
Each of you has the possibility and capability of being GREAT, question is; do you believe it?
Over my life in sports, academics and in my personal and business life, I have found that a good positive attitude and a belief in oneself are two of the biggest determining factors in becoming successful. It is a known fact that athletes that ‘see’ themselves winning and on the medal stand excel, and business entrepreneurs and top salespeople that have a vision of where they are headed and despite what befalls them, stay true the course – those are the ones that excel and go on to greatness.
I recently watched a special on the development of the “flash-frozen food industry”; I never knew that Clarence Birdseye was on a hunting expedition in Alaska and watch the fisherman there pulling fish from the water and watching them freeze almost immediately due to the cold or a moose that was killed and how the carcass would stay preserved in the cold was the impetus of that industry. He was laughed at, scoffed but none-the-less he BELIEVED in his vision and himself and created an industry that has changed our lives dramatically.
In this case, he ‘thrust greatness upon” himself, didn’t take the ‘easy’ road. I want you to stop this week and challenge yourself to something great like, making 10 more phone calls today and every day this month, 10 cold calls this month and set a goal to increase your margins 5% on every sale this month – you’ll be surprised at the outcome.
Expect greatness for yourself – I believe you can…do you?
Until next week, continued success…Cliff
